Dr. Master provides over 25 years of clinical experience in the fields of Functional Neurology & Preventive Medicine. Functional neurology focuses primarily on the brain and nervous system, which is considered the "master system" of the body since it controls and coordinates every cell, tissue, gland, organ, and system within the body.
The premise of Functional Neurology pertains to promoting balance, or homeostasis, within the nervous system through brain-based plasticity. Consequently, balanced brain function is followed by balanced bodily system function. The means of promoting neuro-plasticity is via receptor activation of joints/muscles (proprioceptive), visual, auditory, and/or vestibular integration. Cortical- and cerebellar-based procedures may also be employed to promote brain plasticity.
Preventive health measures are instrumental in optimizing health to the fullest. Rather than treat end-stage disease, which is more difficult to reverse and more costly, special attention is devoted to observing clinical progression toward disease through functional biomarkers. As such, Dr. Master's training includes a focus on disease prevention through functional laboratory work up, genetic markers, and microbiome (gut bacteria) assessment.
